God of War Ragnarok features a wide variety of optional encounters and hidden boss fights that enrich the journey across the Nine Realms. Among the most intriguing challenges are the slumbering stone trolls, which remain dormant until players awaken them using a specific key item. Finding these hidden giants provides essential materials required to craft powerful defensive gear for Kratos.

How to Unlock the Hidden Stone Trolls

Before players can engage the slumbering stone trolls, they must first obtain the Mystical Heirloom relic located in Midgard. This unique item rests behind a destructible ice wall near the Lake of Nine, accessible only after acquiring the Draupnir Spear. Equipping the relic and activating it near a dormant troll statue shatters the spell, triggering an immediate boss battle.

Defeating these beasts rewards players with Slumbering Stones, which are necessary to forge the legendary Steinbjorn armor set. Knowing exact spawn points allows players to complete their armor set much earlier in their adventure.

Midgard and Alfheim Troll Encounters

The first stone troll, named Blodugr Steinn, is located in the Derelict Outpost region of Midgard. Players can navigate past the blacksmith shop and cross the chasm using the grapple cranes to find the statue waiting in an open arena. Defeating this solitary opponent serves as an excellent warm-up for the tougher battles ahead.

For the next challenge, head to the Forbidden Sands desert within Alfheim to locate Bjarg Stormr. This giant rests in the northern portion of the region and requires completing the regional sandstorm quest for easier navigation. Fighting in the open desert grants plenty of room to dodge sweeping attacks and retaliate effectively.

Navigating Vanaheim and Claiming Your Rewards

The final sleeping troll encounter takes place in Noatun's Garden, situated along the riverbanks of Vanaheim. Unlike the previous encounters, this location features two stone trolls named Golrab of the Ashes and Golrab of the Frost who attack simultaneously. Players must manage crowd control carefully, as one troll resists elemental ice while the other resists elemental fire attacks.

Once all four trolls are defeated, players will have gathered enough resources to fully craft and upgrade the Steinbjorn armor. This set offers tremendous defense stats and passive healing perks, making it ideal for endgame challenges and optional endgame boss fights.
