Finding and successfully taking down this elusive animal requires a mix of geographical knowledge and tracking skills.
Finding the Exact Territory
The Legendary Buck is located in the West Elizabeth region, specifically within the forested area of Big Valley. You will need to travel just northwest of the town of Strawberry, around the slopes of Mount Shann. When you enter the correct zone, a black text notification will appear on your screen indicating you have entered legendary animal territory.
If you arrive and receive a message stating there is too much activity in the area, you may need to clear out nearby camps. Setting up your own camp down the road and sleeping for a few hours can often reset the environment. Once the area cools down, you can return to begin the tracking process safely.
Tracking the Beast
To begin the hunt, activate your Eagle Eye ability to scan the environment for the first clue, which appears as a glowing golden mist. The initial clue is typically a pile of dung or broken twigs located near the center of the drawn animal icon on your map. Inspecting this clue will reveal a faint path that you must follow to find subsequent signs.
You will need to track a total of three distinct clues before the animal itself spawns into the world. Moving slowly and staying crouched during this phase ensures you do not accidentally spook the creature before spotting it. The final trail will lead you directly to where the magnificent white buck is grazing.
Hunting and Weapon Tips
Unlike standard game in the wilderness, legendary animals possess significantly higher health pools and will not degrade in quality based on the weapon used. This unique mechanic means you can utilize high-powered rifles or repeating shotguns without worrying about ruining the skin. Aiming for vital areas like the head or heart using Dead Eye will ensure a swift and clean kill.
Once the creature is down, skin the carcass immediately to secure the legendary pelt and antler. Load the heavy hide onto the back of your horse and head directly to the nearest Trapper to craft exclusive clothing items. Do not forget to visit a Fence afterwards to create the Buck Antler Trinket, which permanently boosts your hunting luck across the frontier.
